What you will do
The Legal team at eXp Realty is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal who will provide support to the team all while working remotely. A successful candidate will be self-motivated, quick-thinking, flexible, collaborative and able to juggle multiple and diverse responsibilities with a strong emphasis on organization and an unwavering attention to detail at all times. The Litigation Paralegal principally works in tandem with a litigation attorney, but may support any member of the litigation team as needed, participating in all phases of the litigation process, maintaining organized indexed files, conducting document searches and research. This is a demanding and fast moving position that requires someone who is able to exercise good judgment, who takes significant initiative, and possesses the ability to handle an array of confidential matters. This position will work closely with our Legal team and other internal business partners across the eXp Realty workplace.
How you will make an impact
- Assist with management of the day-to-day litigation caseload, including managing the retention of outside counsel, legal discovery, data collection, response deadlines, and doing so with multiple parties across multiple time zones;
- Manage and execute timely delivery of assigned legal tasks or services;
- Take legal briefs and notes; prepare correspondence, reports and datasheets;
- Process and manage the litigation workflow and juggle priorities efficiently;
- Set up and input new electronic files in compliance with current department policies using the company’s various systems and electronic document software;
- Report claims to insurance companies and relevant coverage details; assist in gathering information to respond to demand letters, lawsuits, and discovery requests;
- Assist in review of invoices from outside counsel and vendors;
- Prepare, review, edit, and proofread legal documents, including responses to discovery under attorney direction by gathering case evidence and documentation from internal databases and systems;
- Enhance attorney effectiveness by monitoring case progress, alerting attorneys of issues, maintaining contact with business units, claims managers, adjusters, and opposing counsel, contributing to case reviews, completing projects, and providing secretarial support;
- Assist with legal spend tracking and reporting;
- Responsible for case and claims management and supporting new process implementations;
- Maintain communication with business partners about case progress;
- Foster professional relationships with peers, superiors, and clients;
- Participate in educational opportunities to update job knowledge;
- Support company and department goals by assisting in related tasks;
- Oversee e-Discovery processes including collection, processing, review, and production of electronically stored information (ESI); collaborate with IT professionals to ensure proper data preservation and collection, and assist in developing e-Discovery strategies.
- Perform other assigned responsibilities as needed.
How you will grab our attention
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent paralegal studies certification preferred; work experience may substitute for formal education.
- Knowledge of law practices, legal processes, and terms, especially discovery preparation and legal documentation;
- Ability to work independently and remotely, and as part of a team;
- Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills, with strong writing abilities;
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
- Effective interaction with all levels of company personnel and external parties;
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality;
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, legal research databases, word processing, and adaptability to new software.
