Job summary

Higgs Fletcher & Mack LLP in San Diego seeks a skilled Paralegal to support tort and employment cases, including intake, discovery, and trial preparation. This role requires five years of experience in employment law or civil litigation and strong organizational and writing abilities.

You will work with iManage, Westlaw, and other firm platforms, maintain case files, coordinate witnesses, and draft pleadings and discovery documents—while upholding discretion and professionalism.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or Paralegal Certificate preferred.
• Minimum of five years' experience in employment law or civil litigation.
• Strong understanding of court procedures, legal terminology, and employment law principles.
• Strong administrative skills and close attention to detail.
• Professional appearance and effective communication with clients and co-workers.
• Proficiency in legal software such as iManage, Compulaw, Forms Workflow, Westlaw, and/or other comparable programs.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates strong understanding of state and federal civil procedure, including local rules, filing requirements, and litigation deadlines
• Reviews, organizes, and maintains employment-related records, personnel documents, and investigation materials
• Coordinates expert witnesses, manages communication, and supports development of expert reports and testimony
• Drafts pleadings, motions, petitions, settlement agreements, declarations, discovery responses, and professional correspondence
• Prepares written discovery, outlines, deposition materials, exhibit binders, and document production sets
• Manages subpoenas, deposition scheduling, witness coordination, and related calendaring
• Maintains organized case files and manages electronic documents using Eclipse and other firm platforms
• Provides administrative assistance including scanning, emailing, formatting, and organizing legal materials
• Communicates professionally with clients, attorneys, experts, and opposing counsel to support case progress
• Conducts factual research, gathers records, and compiles information relevant to tort and employment matters
