Job summary

Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP is seeking a Litigation Paralegal to support attorneys through all stages of litigation, from pre-trial to post-trial. The role emphasizes eDiscovery, document management, and comprehensive case preparation, with a focus on precise legal research and timely production.

The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of litigation paralegal experience, a strong eye for detail, and the ability to manage multiple complex matters with discretion and high professional

Qualifications

• ABA paralegal certification or Bachelor’s/Associate degree in paralegal studies preferred.
• Detail-oriented with strong proofreading skills and knowledge of legal principles.

Responsibilities

• Manage federal and state court filings, including electronic filing.
• Maintain attorney calendars; schedule hearings, depositions, mediations and trials; track deadlines.
• Draft routine court documents (notices of appearance, PHV, motions for extension of time, motions for default, deposition notices, subpoenas).
• Manage hard copy and electronic case documents; prepare deposition, hearing, and trial binders.
• Conduct legal and factual research using Westlaw and other legal research platforms.
• Assist with document production: review, redaction, Bates labeling, QC and production to opposing counsel.
• Cite-check briefs, motions, memoranda, exhibits and authorities for accuracy.
• Organize, analyze, summarize and index documents, exhibits, and evidence.
• Coordinate discovery: written responses, document collection, privilege logs and deadlines.
• Assist attorneys with deposition preparation: binders, summaries, designations and logistics.

Position Summary: The Litigation Paralegal is responsible for assisting attorneys during the litigation process. This includes but is not limited to handling pre-claim investigations, drafting legal documents, document review, maintaining indexes, organizing case files and attending trial.

Key Responsibilities:

• Must be well versed in federal and state court and filing requirements, including electronic filing in federal courts and state courts.
• Perform administrative duties, including maintaining attorney calendars; scheduling hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials; and calculating court and discovery deadlines.
• Draft routine court documents, such as notices of appearance, PHV, motions for extension of time, motions for default, deposition notices, and subpoenas.
• Manage hard copy and electronic case documents, including managing email and electronic files and preparing deposition, hearing, and trial binders.
• Conduct legal and factual research, including background searches, retrieving case law and other legal authorities through Westlaw and other legal research platforms, as needed.
• Assist with all aspects of document production, including document review, redaction, Bates labeling, quality control, and production to opposing counsel.
• Cite-check briefs, motions, legal memoranda, exhibits, and supporting authorities for accuracy and completeness.
• Organize, analyze, summarize, and index documents, exhibits, and evidence.
• Manage all phases of the discovery process, including drafting and responding to written discovery, coordinating document collection, preparing privilege logs, and tracking discovery deadlines.
• Assist attorneys with all aspects of deposition preparation, including preparing witness and exhibit binders, deposition summaries, deposition designations, and coordinating logistics with court reporters and videographers.
• Demonstrate exceptional eDiscovery skills, including establishing ESI protocols; coordinating with the eDiscovery team to establish and maintain Relativity databases and tagging criteria; coordinating document review and production; and ensuring compliance with discovery obligations.
• Maintain deposition databases utilizing Opus2 and other litigation support platforms.
• Obtain, organize, review, summarize, and analyze medical records, billing records, diagnostic imaging, and other healthcare records; prepare detailed medical chronologies, treatment summaries, and damages summaries.
• Coordinate the collection, review, and organization of medical, employment, financial, and other records necessary to support medical malpractice and wrongful death claims.
• Assist in identifying, organizing, and preparing materials for medical experts and other expert witnesses, including compiling records, exhibits, literature, and supporting documentation for expert review and testimony.
• Coordinate expert witness retention, scheduling, document production, and communication, including tracking expert disclosures, reports, deposition dates, and trial appearances.
• Create and maintain trial exhibit databases, witness lists, exhibit lists, deposition designation databases, and trial presentation materials; assist with preparation of pretrial, trial, and post-trial filings.
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with attorneys, clients, experts, court personnel, and staff at all levels in a courteous and professional manner with a strong client-service orientation.
• Demonstrate excellent organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple complex litigation matters simultaneously while adapting to changing priorities and deadlines.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree with ABA paralegal certification or Associates/Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies preferred.
• 5 years minimum litigation paralegal experience.
• Detail oriented with strong proofreading skills.
• Knowledge and understanding of legal principles and practices.
• Ability to apply understanding and knowledge of the litigation process from pretrial to post-trial.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Superior interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication across a diverse group of internal and external clients, attorneys and staff while maintaining high level of work quality and customer service.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion.
• Ability to work moderate to heavy overtime.
