  • Ensure compliance with court rules and local practices.
  • Occasional court filings and retrieval of county clerk documents.
  • Review discovery documents and manage document version control.
  • Provide billing support as needed.

Job description

Wuersch Gering, an international boutique law firm with a predominantly European-based business clientele, is seeking a litigation paralegal/legal assistant on a full-time basis.

OVERVIEW

The litigation paralegal/legal assistant performs legal tasks, works on legal projects and provides administrative support to attorneys, for the most part, litigators.

REPORTING

General: Firm management

Projects: Assigning attorneys regularly review performance

RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary
  • Electronically file documents in both state and federal courts;
  • Bluebook/cite check to ensure validity of cites and accuracy of cases and quotations in briefs;
  • Create and maintain internal calendars for cases, matters, hearings, trials, and/or meetings;
  • Supervise physical service of process for subpoenas and initial pleadings;
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication with clients, outside vendors, court personnel and other parties;
  • Knowledge of, and compliance with, court, local and Individual Judge’s Practices rules expected;
  • Occasional trips to courthouses expected for paper filings and retrieval of county clerk’s office documents;
  • Discovery document review and production;
  • Organize, proofread and manage documents (responsible for version control);
  • Promote effective work practices, including triage, and work as a team member;
  • Prepare and send correspondence to clients, outside counsel, etc.;
  • Perform billing support, as needed.
Secondary
  • Back-up other support staff in the event of absences or work overflow;
  • Back-up receptionist in event of absences or when need arises;
  • Perform all other tasks as reasonably requested by firm management and/or attorneys.
SKILLS

This position requires proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint and advanced Word skills including formatting documents, creating Table of Contents and Table of Authorities; enjoy being a team player as well as work independently; be well organized; exhibit a positive attitude; pay attention to detail; and have excellent organizational skills. Knowledge of Westlaw a plus.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certification required
