  • Minimum of 3 years of litigation paralegal experience, preferably in construction/commercial litigation or related areas.
  • Strong understanding of litigation procedures, court rules, and discovery processes.
  • Experience with document management and e-discovery platforms is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support attorneys through all stages of construction litigation from inception to trial and appeal.
  • Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, discovery requests, subpoenas, and correspondence.
  • Manage large volumes of case documents including contracts, schedules, and change orders.
  • Coordinate document production, e-discovery, and review processes.
  • Assist with discovery responses, deposition prep, witness coordination, and exhibit management.

About the Role:

Hoagland, Longo, Moran, Dunst & Doukas, LLP is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Construction Litigation Paralegal to support attorneys within the firm's Construction Practice Group. This role will assist with all phases of complex construction and commercial litigation matters, including case management, document review, discovery, trial preparation, and client communication. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple matters in a fast-paced legal environment.

We are a mid-sized law firm located in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We have satellite locations in Hammonton, NJ, Red Bank, NJ and NYC. We were founded in 1977 as a small and firm and over the years have managed to grow and expand our firm. We are full-service law firm and are committed to the highest standards of professional competence, innovative thinking, and client advocacy to help make complex legal matters simple to navigate.

We have a little over 100 employees including 60+ attorneys and we are approved counsel for many major insurance carries with a strong focus on complex civil litigation. We also offer a wide variety of legal services across multiple practice areas.

Paralegal Key Responsibilities:
  • Support attorneys throughout all stages of construction litigation, from case inception through trial and appeal.
  • Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, discovery requests, subpoenas, and correspondence.
  • Manage large volumes of case-related documents, including construction contracts, project records, change orders, invoices, schedules, and project communications.
  • Coordinate and oversee document production, electronic discovery (e-discovery), and document review processes.
  • Assist with discovery responses, deposition preparation, witness coordination, and exhibit management.
  • Summarize depositions, expert reports, medical records, and other case-related materials.
  • Conduct factual investigations and legal research using online legal databases and public records.
  • Maintain case files, litigation calendars, deadlines, and court filings in state and federal courts.
  • Coordinate with clients, experts, consultants, contractors, insurers, and opposing counsel regarding case matters.
  • Prepare trial binders, exhibits, witness files, and other materials for hearings, arbitrations, mediations, and trials.
  • Track and organize construction project documentation and timelines to support litigation strategy.
  • Assist with billing entries, expense tracking, and matter management as needed.
Paralegal Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree, bachelor's degree, or Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of litigation paralegal experience, preferably in construction litigation, commercial litigation, insurance defense, or related practice areas.
  • Strong understanding of litigation procedures, court rules, and discovery processes.
  • Experience managing large document-intensive cases and e-discovery platforms.
  • Familiarity with construction industry documents, including contracts, subcontracts, project schedules, RFIs, change orders, and payment applications, is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software.
  • Experience with document management and e-discovery platforms is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys, clients, and support staff.
Paralegal Preferred Qualifications:
  • Construction litigation or construction defect litigation.
  • Multi-party litigation matters.
  • Arbitration and mediation preparation.
  • Trial preparation and courtroom support.
