Position Overview
Our client, a nationally recognized law firm, is seeking a Litigation Paralegal to support its Government Practice Group in Chicago. This hybrid position is ideal for an experienced litigation paralegal who enjoys managing cases from inception through trial and has a strong background in civil defense litigation.
The successful candidate will work closely with attorneys on all aspects of litigation, including discovery, trial preparation, fact investigation, legal research, and case management.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor case files throughout the entire litigation lifecycle, from inception through settlement, arbitration, mediation, or trial.
- Track deadlines and ensure timely responses to court and case-related requirements.
- Prepare subpoenas for depositions and document production.
- Draft discovery requests, including:
- Interrogatories
- Requests for Production
- Requests for Admission
- Assist with drafting and organizing discovery responses, document productions, and privilege logs.
- Prepare attorneys for depositions and assist with deposition logistics.
- Research, identify, and coordinate with expert witnesses and consultants.
- Draft and organize legal documents, including:
- Pleadings
- Briefs
- Agreements
- Fact chronologies
- Medical chronologies
- Trial and mediation binders
- Conduct factual investigations, including online and social media research.
- Support trial preparation efforts, including:
- Trial notebooks
- Exhibit lists
- Witness lists
- Trial subpoenas
- Witness coordination
- Trial presentation preparation
- Prepare and manage physical and electronic exhibits.
- Attend trials and provide in-court support as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of civil litigation paralegal experience.
- Experience handling complex litigation matters.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience working with or representing government entities is preferred.
- Strong understanding of litigation procedures, discovery practice, and trial preparation.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong written communication and document preparation abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines simultaneously.
- Experience conducting factual investigations and legal research.
Technology Skills
Candidates should possess proficiency with:
- Microsoft Word
- Excel
- PowerPoint

- LexisNexis
- PACER
- Relativity
- TrialPad
- Sanction or similar exhibit presentation software
- Document management systems such as iManage
Experience with electronic discovery platforms and trial presentation technology is strongly preferred.
Compensation
Estimated Salary Range: $64,000 - $105,000 annually.
Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, internal equity, market data, certifications, and other job‑related factors.
