Job summary

Shelter Insurance Companies is seeking a Litigation Counsel to lead and coordinate claims litigation activities across designated states, guiding strategy and supervising outside counsel. You will direct, train, and assess claims teams, ensuring adherence to state law and the company’s protocols.

The role requires a law degree with strong litigation knowledge and 1-3 years of trial or claims experience, plus excellent communication and relationship-building abilities with diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication, organizational, analytical and decision-making skills.
• Ability to maintain ever-changing schedules and prioritize time-sensitive work.
• Ability to develop relationships with diverse groups including defense attorneys and judges.
• Law degree and mastery of litigation, insurance law, and policy terms.
• 1-3 years trial or legal claims experience with on-the-job training.

Responsibilities

• Manage and direct claims litigation activities and case strategy for designated Shelter states.
• Direct Managers and Supervisors in claims handling, investigation, and communication.
• Manage, supervise, hire, fire, monitor, and evaluate performance of outside attorneys.
• Direct and train claims-handling activities in accordance with state law.
• Research law to explain impact on claims handling, procedures, and policy changes.
