Job Summary

AEGIS Insurance Services Inc. has an immediate opening for a Litigation Counsel, Environmental. The role oversees an inventory of complex Professional Liability claims at the excess level, managing assigned claims and providing claims services and appropriate advice to AEGIS and its members‑policyholders.

Job Requirements
  • Minimum 5 to 8 years of experience in legal or insurance claims related field.
  • Experience with coverage analysis, litigation procedures, and management/negotiation of large and/or complex claims.
  • Law degree from an ABA accredited school and admission to a state bar.
  • Environmental claims experience a plus.
  • Professional insurance certifications a plus.
  • Working knowledge of the energy industry a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to effectively present to varied audiences.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate large and/or complex claims.

Essential Job Functions
  • Management of Assigned Claims: Achieve timely and proper coverage analysis and verification, and effectively communicate AEGIS’ coverage positions on assigned claims.
  • Achieve timely and accurate evaluation of liability and damages.
  • Establish and adjust UNL and NUNL reserves reflecting AEGIS’ ultimate probable cost/exposure.
  • Provide timely and appropriate reporting to file, claims management and reinsurers, as needed.
  • Provide advice, technical assistance and case management direction to insureds’ claim professionals and defense attorneys in investigation, evaluation, negotiation, settlement and defense of claims and litigation.
  • Conduct or participate in settlement negotiations with insured’s personnel and counsel, when appropriate.
  • Consult with Claims management and the Claims Review Committee, as required, in evaluation and management of assigned claims.
  • Assist in the development of policy and standards for the Claims Division.
  • Foster and maintain good working relationships with insureds, counsel, brokers, and reinsurers.
  • Provide advice and guidance to AEGIS colleagues in evaluation and management of claims, analysis of coverage issues, and research and review of statutory and common law.
  • Ensure smooth operation of the department when Claims management team is unavailable.
  • Keep abreast of developments in law and their applicability and impact on claims.
Salary and Benefits

Starting salary between $120,000 and $150,000, based on qualifications. AEGIS employees are eligible to participate in an annual incentive program with competitive awards.
