First Chicago Insurance Company in Cleveland, OH seeks an experienced Litigation Specialist to manage litigated and complex auto liability claims. You will determine coverage, draft letters, and supervise the claim process from investigation to settlement with internal teams and defense counsel.

Ideal candidates have a college degree and at least five years of claims adjusting experience, plus knowledge of legal/medical terminology and the ability to obtain a licensed adjuster certification if

Qualifications

• College degree and / or 5 years of applicable claims adjusting experience.
• Knowledge of legal and medical terminology.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to pass written examinations to become a licensed claim adjuster.

Responsibilities

• Handle litigation claims in accordance with established office procedures.
• Determine coverage and draft any applicable reservations of rights letters.
• Conduct prompt investigations by securing statements and obtaining necessary documents (police reports, medicals, photos, appraisals).
• Litigation management including defense coordination and experts on defense cases.
• Maintain an appropriate diary on all open files.
• Work with vendors to manage expenses and uphold quality service.
• Research and interpret case law, statutes, and forms for proper adjustment and settlement.
• Evaluate use of experts and field investigators as needed.
• Maintain claim files and document activity per regulations and policies.
• Prepare and present claim evaluations to secure settlement authority.
• Establish and maintain proper indemnity and expense reserves.
• Onsite review of defense counsel as required.
• Adhere to Department of Insurance rules for the loss state.
• Additional duties as directed by supervisor.
