Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced and confident Civil Litigation Attorney to handle a diverse caseload of civil and real estate‑related litigation matters from inception through resolution. The ideal candidate will be a practical, hands‑on litigator who can independently manage cases, appear regularly in court, communicate directly with clients, and develop effective strategies to achieve favorable and cost‑effective outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently manage civil litigation matters through all stages, including pre-suit investigation, pleadings, discovery, motion practice, settlement, trial preparation, and trial.
• Draft, review, and respond to pleadings, motions, affirmations, affidavits, discovery demands and responses, subpoenas, settlement agreements, and other litigation documents.
• Conduct legal research and prepare persuasive legal memoranda, briefs, motions, and written arguments.
• Appear regularly in New York State Supreme Court and other state and local courts for conferences, hearings, oral arguments, and trials.
• Take and defend depositions and prepare clients and witnesses for depositions, hearings, and trial.
• Develop litigation strategies that are practical, cost‑effective, and aligned with client objectives.
• Handle matters involving real estate and property disputes, breach of contract, commercial disputes, landlord‑tenant matters, injunctions, declaratory judgment actions, and general civil litigation.
• Communicate directly with clients regarding case strategy, litigation developments, risks, settlement opportunities, and anticipated costs.
• Negotiate with opposing counsel and participate in settlement conferences, mediations, and other alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
• Manage all aspects of discovery, including document production, electronically stored information, interrogatories, notices to admit, depositions, and third‑party discovery.
• Maintain responsibility for court deadlines, discovery schedules, appearances, and other case‑management requirements.
• Evaluate new matters, potential claims and defenses, and litigation strategies during client consultations.
• Work collaboratively with partners, associates, paralegals, and support staff while maintaining primary responsibility for assigned matters.
• Maintain organized and complete case files and accurately record billable time in accordance with firm procedures.
• Provide clients with responsive, professional, and practical legal advice, with an emphasis on efficient dispute resolution while remaining fully prepared to litigate when necessary.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the New York State Bar and in good standing.
• Proven experience handling civil litigation matters independently.
• Strong experience with pleadings, discovery, motion practice, depositions, negotiations, and court appearances.
• Experience with real estate, commercial, contract, landlord‑tenant, or general civil litigation is strongly preferred.
• Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
• Strong client‑management and communication abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple matters, deadlines, and priorities with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and sound judgment.
• Ability to work effectively with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff.
