It's 8:15 on a Thursday. You're on a condo pool deck with an engineer, a property manager and four other defense lawyers, all staring at the same crack in the same slab. Everyone has a theory. Only one of them will hold up at mediation.

I'm Ryan Jaiswal at Distinct Recruitment. I'm hiring a construction defect defense associate in Tampa for an insurance defense firm that takes this practice seriously. Serious enough to staff files properly, and serious enough to train the people working them.

The docket

The deal

• Hybrid to start, working from the Tampa office part of the week, with the option to go fully remote once you're settled in
• $125,000 to $180,000. It's broad on purpose, so a strong 2nd year and a seasoned counsel level lawyer both fit

What you need

• 2+ years of construction defect defense. This is a specialist seat. If you haven't handled CD files, this one isn't the right fit
• Comfort reading plans, expert reports and scopes of work
• An instinct for keeping a file with a dozen parties moving
