Job summary

WestEd is seeking an experienced Literacy Technical Assistance Specialist to join our Language and Literacy team. You will partner with states and districts to implement evidence-based literacy instruction and drive systemic improvements in outcomes.

The role emphasizes K-5 literacy, the science of reading, and multilingual learner support. Travel up to 30% is expected; remote work is common between engagements.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in K-5 literacy development and the science of reading as it applies to classroom instruction and policy.
• Experience designing and delivering support for multilingual learners.
• Experience managing small to mid-size projects with budget and team coordination.
• Ability to translate research into actionable guidance for educators and leaders.

Responsibilities

• Design and provide technical assistance to state and local education agency partners with a focus on PreK-5 literacy and multilingual learners.
• Develop resources and tools in partnership with clients to advance literacy goals and local capacity.
• Provide expert consultation and strategic planning to help clients set priorities and drive systemic change.
• Design and manage TA projects to improve literacy outcomes for multilingual learners and other underserved groups.
• Build authentic relationships with clients and communities grounded in trust and shared goals.
• Plan and facilitate professional learning events, workshops, and site visits translating research into practice.
• Gather and analyze data to evaluate impact and inform improvements.
• Represent WestEd at conferences sharing expertise in structured literacy and multilingual learner support.
• Contribute to proposal development for small- to mid-size projects.
