Job summary

The Literacy Specialist at the Ohio School for the Deaf in Columbus will work with our American Sign Language and English Specialists to support literacy development through high-quality instructional practices, data-informed decisions, and evidence-based strategies in a well-managed classroom.

You will collaborate with teachers and other specialists to monitor progress and implement effective strategies that help deaf and hard-of-hearing students reach their full literacy potential.

Qualifications

• Must maintain valid Ohio teaching licensure for the relevant grade level, subject area or special class assignment.
• Must demonstrate Advanced SLPI within one year of hire; Intermediate level minimum at hire.

Responsibilities

• Support students' literacy development through high-quality, research-based instructional practices reflecting individual learning needs and data.
• Collaborate with ASL and English Specialists to monitor progress and implement effective instructional strategies.
• Foster a well-managed, engaging learning environment to promote language development, literacy growth, and academic achievement for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
