Job summary

Salem State University is seeking a Professor of Practice, Literacy to teach literacy courses and supervise teacher candidates in PK-8 programs. The role emphasizes high-quality practicum experiences aligned with DESE standards and involves coaching practicum supervisors and coordinating with the McKeown School of Education.

The position is a four-year fixed-term non-tenure track beginning Fall 2027, with a strong focus on literacy across Early Childhood, Elementary, and Moderate Disabilities

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, Literacy, or a closely related field.
• Reading Specialist license or PreK-2 or 1-6 Teacher license or Moderate Disabilities license (PreK-8) or equivalent credential demonstrating advanced literacy expertise.
• Significant professional experience (at least five years) teaching literacy.
• Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based literacy instruction and assessment.
• Experience mentoring, supervising, or coaching teacher candidates and/or practicing educators.

Responsibilities

• Teach literacy-related, DESE-aligned courses for PK-8 teacher candidates.
• Supervise teacher candidates in practicum placements with a focus on literacy instruction.
• Train and coach practicum supervisors on literacy observation and feedback.
• Develop and evaluate professional learning for practicum supervisors.
• Collaborate with the McKeown School of Education on literacy content and state standards.
