Job summary

Wayne County Schools Employment Network seeks an Elementary School Teaching/Literacy Coach to lead literacy instruction across pre-K to 5, implement MTSS, and coach teachers in evidence-based reading strategies.

The role requires a Michigan teaching certificate, a bachelor’s degree, and advanced reading coursework (LETRS training preferred). Collaboration with staff to improve reading outcomes is essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience implementing MTSS with formative, screening, and diagnostic tools to determine progress toward grade-level reading by end of grade 3.
  • Experience using diagnostic data to tailor supports and interventions for pre-K-5 students to achieve grade-level reading.
  • Experience as a successful pre-K-5 classroom teacher.
  • Experience collaborating with adults and applying adult learning principles for professional growth.
  • Sufficient knowledge of scientifically based reading research and evidence-based reading instruction.
  • Minimum Michigan teaching certificate, bachelor's degree, and advanced literacy coursework (e.g., LETRS).
  • Completion or progress toward LETRS training.
  • Experience with instructional technology practices for pre-K-5.
  • Ability to support all pre-K-5 teachers in alignment with the K-12 Literacy and Dyslexia Law (MCL: 380.1280f).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teachers and apply adult learning principles to support growth and collaboration.
  • Apply scientifically based reading research and evidence-based literacy strategies to content areas.
  • Support alignment with K-12 Literacy and Dyslexia Law (MCL: 380.1280f).

  • Experience implementing an instructional delivery model based on frequent use of formative, screening, and diagnostic tools, known as a multi-tiered system of support, to determine individual progress for pupils in grades pre-K to 5 so that pupils are reading at grade level by the end of grade 3.
  • Experience in the use of data from diagnostic tools to determine the necessary additional supports and interventions needed by individual pupils in grades pre-K to 5 in order to be reading at grade level.
  • Experience as a successful pre-K-5 classroom teacher.
  • Experience working with adults and applying adult learning principles to support professional growth and collaboration.
  • Sufficient knowledge of scientifically based reading research, special expertise in quality reading instruction and infusing reading strategies into content area instruction.
  • A minimum of a valid Michigan teaching certificate, a bachelor's degree, and advanced coursework in reading or has completed professional development in evidence-based literacy core instructional strategies (e.g., LETRS)
  • Completed, or currently making progress towards completing LETRS training.
  • Experience with appropriate instructional technology practices and implementation at the pre-K-5 level.
  • Ability to support all pre-K-5 teachers in alignment with the K-12 Literacy and Dyslexia Law (MCL: 380.1280f).
