Job summary

Bi-County Collaborative in Walpole, MA is seeking a Literacy Coach to lead and improve reading instruction across the district. You will collaborate with classroom teachers to establish effective interventions and develop instructional skills, fostering a culture of reading and a love for books.

Qualifications

• MA DESE Certification as Reading Specialist is required.
• Master’s Degree in Reading Instruction preferred.
• Experience with tiered systems of support, direct instruction, data analysis, and instructional coaching.
• SEI Endorsement.
• Certification in specialized reading approaches such as Wilson, Orton Gillingham preferred.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with classroom teachers, Curriculum Department and Leadership Team to guide implementation of literacy instruction best practices; review student data to evaluate program effectiveness.
• Provide ongoing coaching and support to staff in strategies to improve literacy across the curriculum.
• Provide screening, assessment and direct instruction in literacy; make recommendations for reading/writing interventions.
• Meet regularly with teachers and paraprofessionals to plan literacy instruction aligned to individual student needs.
• Coordinate and provide professional development for faculty and staff; examine data to measure literacy program success and recommend improvements.
• Other duties as assigned by Administrators.

Job Description

Position Summary:

The role of the Literacy Coach is to assist with establishing effective reading instruction practices and systems across the Collaborative. The Literacy Coach will provide specialized instruction, support and leadership in order to produce high quality outcomes in the area of Reading and Literacy for students. Additionally, the Literacy Coach will collaborate with classroom teachers to establish interventions and develop instructional skills. The Literacy Coach will support the development of a culture of reading that ensures strong reading instruction, excitement about books, and a genuine, institutional love for reading

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with classroom teachers, the Curriculum Department and Leadership Team to guide implementation of best practices for instruction of literacy skills. Review student assessment data to evaluate the effectiveness of the literacy program.
• Provide ongoing coaching and support to all staff in strategies to improve instruction that will support literacy growth across the curriculum.
• Provide screening, assessment and direct instruction to students in the area of literacy. Make recommendations on appropriate reading and writing intervention and support services for students.
• Meet regularly with the classroom teachers and paraprofessionals to plan literacy instruction that correlates with the individual student’s needs or as requested by the classroom teacher.
• Help coordinate and periodically provide Professional Development for faculty and staff. Examine and evaluate data to measure the success of literacy programs and instruction and make recommendations for improvement.
• Other duties as assigned by Administrators.
