Job summary

Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator II - Range Network to support the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Kekaha, Hawai`i. The role administers RHEL across Navy networks, applies DoW security requirements, and drives patching, hardening, and automation efforts in a live mission environment.

Candidate will work with RMF, DISA STIGs, and ATO packages, while collaborating with cybersecurity teams, and participating in change control boards.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) year technical school or equivalent.
  • A.S. degree (High School Diploma with four (4) years of directly related Windows system administration experience may be substituted for an A.S. degree)
  • Advance certifications may be substituted for a degree or experience.
  • VMware/Nutanix certification
  • DOD 8570.1M IAT Level II
  • Linux+ or RHCSA

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain Red Hat Linux (RHEL) in classified and unclassified Navy networks.
  • Implement RMF controls and ensure DISA STIGs compliance.
  • Apply patches and updates per DoW policies.
  • Manage installation methods and system imaging (SCCM, VMware, Nutanix, Satellite, Ansible).
  • Perform system hardening and vulnerability remediation with ACAS, ESS, SCAP.
  • Develop PowerShell scripts for automation.
  • Support VMware and Hyper-V virtualization environments.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams on ATO packages and audits.
  • Maintain system documentation and SOPs.
  • Participate in CCBs and CMBs.
  • Lead incident response and disaster recovery planning.
  • Define backup strategies using Veeam, Commvault.

Job description

Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC is looking for a Linux Systems Administrator II - Range Network. The position will be located at the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF), Kekaha, Hawai'i.

Provides Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) system administration for all Clients and Servers connected to the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) classified and unclassified networks. Deploys Cyber Security mandated system upgrades, system patches, system patches, and system security lockdown requirements. Performs system wide troubleshooting and problem resolution in a live mission environment.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Administer and maintain Red Hat Linux (RHEL) and other Linux-based environments in classified and unclassified environments across Navy networks.
  • Implement and maintain RMF security controls and ensure systems are compliant with DISA STIGs and DoW cybersecurity policies.
  • Apply and manage patches and updates across all Linux systems in accordance with DoW and Navy patch management policies.
  • Manage automated installation methods and system imaging (e.g., SCCM, VMware, Nutanix, Satellite, Ansible)
  • Perform system hardening, patching, and vulnerability remediation using tools such as ACAS, ESS, and SCAP.
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for automation of administrative tasks and system configuration.
  • Support virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper‑V) and manage virtual infrastructure lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to support ATO packages, POA&Ms, and audit readiness.
  • Maintain and develop system documentation, configuration baselines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Participate in Change Control Boards (CCBs) and Configuration Management Boards (CMBs).
  • Lead incident response, forensic analysis, and system recovery efforts.
  • Define backup and disaster recovery strategies using enterprise tools (e.g., Veeam, Commvault).
  • Evaluate and recommend new Linux technologies and DoW-approved tools.
  • General office environment with site visits as well as periodic "at sea" duty to support the PMRF's Mobile at Sea Sensor system (MATSS)
  • Candidate must be capable of working in a team environment and participate in technical and system administrative activities throughout project life cycles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Office conditions

are varied and include physical tasks including lifting, pushing or pulling over 50 pounds (with a 2-person assist). Physical positions will include but not be limited to walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, and crawling, kneeling or cramped work, requiring repeated stooping. The environment will include customer contact, extended workdays, in a confined office laboratory work area, field assignments, sometimes in inclement weather.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
  • Two (2) year technical school or equivalent
  • A.S. degree (High School Diploma with four (4) years of directly related Window system administration experience may be substituted for an A.S. degree)
  • Advance certifications may be substituted for a degree or experience.
  • Years of directly related work experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • VMware/Nutanix certification
  • DOD 8570.1M IAT Level II
  • Linux+ or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Two (2) year of specialized Linux system administration is required.
  • Knowledge of IT systems and advance IT infrastructure concepts
  • Must be proficient in operating personal computers, computer software and standard office equipment.
  • Must have basic keyboarding skills and aptitude for neatness and accuracy in sorting.
  • Critical thinking - Proven problem solver
  • Proficiency in automation tools and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python)
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Advance knowledge and certification in both Windows Server and RHEL is considered highly desired

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Secret security clearance is required. (Applicants selected either must currently possess a Secret clearance or will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.)
COMPENSATION DETAILS:
  • $52.88 per hour
  • The compensation range or hourly rate provided is a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, internal equity, market conditions, and applicable laws.
