Job summary

Tundra Technical Solutions seeks a Linux System Engineer for a large-scale server migration project in Salt Lake City. You will plan and execute migrations of ESXi hosts and VMs, manage iSCSI storage and LVM configurations, and build automation for repeatable workflows.

Responsibilities include cross-site migrations, performance tuning, and ensuring security/compliance. Strong VMware, OpenShift CNV, Kubernetes, and scripting skills are essential.

• Bachelor's degree in science or engineering with minimum four years of hands on experience

Responsibilities

• Own and engineer the Linux computer platform at client during the server migration project ensuring its stability security and performance throughout all migration phases
• Plan coordinate and execute end to end server migrations from the source data center to target location including physical servers ESXi hosts and virtual machines
• Manage and migrate VMware ESXi environments, including vMotion, storage vMotion and cross-site migrations of VMs with minimal disruption
• Configure, troubleshoot and migrate iSCSI storage networks, ensuring proper connectivity, multipathing, CHAP authentication and performance
• Manage LVM configurations during migration, including volume group export/import, logical volume resizing, snapshot migrations and file system integrity validation
• Develop and maintain automation tooling to streamline migration tasks, implement, scale and test infrastructure services for repeatable and reliable migration workflows
• Develop and execute migration runbooks, rollback plans and validation checklists to ensure each migration wave is completed successfully
• Collaborate with internal clients and partner engineering teams to understand needs, assess migration readiness, and deliver effective solutions
• Contribute to evolution of modern stack components including Kubernetes, OpenStack as part of post-migration target architecture
• Work closely with support organizations to perform in-depth troubleshooting and resolve issues during migration activities
• Develop and implement technical solutions to enhance system reliability, efficiency and scalability in target data center environments
• Manage and optimize virtualization environments using VMware and Red Hat OpenShift CNV for cross-site migrations
• Participate in design and implementation of CI pipelines for infrastructure as code to support automation
• Monitor performance, identify bottlenecks and take proactive measures during migrations
• Ensure security and compliance across Linux infrastructures throughout migration lifecycle
