OTC Markets Group is seeking an entry‑level Linux Engineer/SRE to join our IT Infrastructure team in New York City. This hands‑on role focuses on Linux fundamentals, scripting, and growing into automation, reliability engineering, and infrastructure‑as‑code.

The role operates in a hybrid setup with three days in the office and two days remote. You will work with experienced engineers to support production systems while learning, growing responsibilities, and contributing to system stability,

Qualifications

• 2+ years of Linux experience (Red Hat 8+ preferred) with fundamentals in storage, backup, and monitoring.
• Understanding of virtualization concepts (e.g., VMware).
• Strong Python scripting skills and ability to develop infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Experience with APIs, web UI concepts, and Git automation.
• Ability to write Ansible playbooks for configuration management.
• Good written and verbal communication; team‑oriented mindset.

Job description

Title: Linux Engineer / SRE

Location: New York City

OTC Markets Group is an established financial technology company redefining the future of public markets. We operate trading platforms for the industry’s top broker-dealers to trade over 12,000 securities, from startups to global Fortune 500 companies.

We’re looking for an entry level Linux Engineer / SRE to join our IT Infrastructure team. This is a hands‑on role ideal for someone with a strong Linux foundation, solid scripting aptitude, and an interest in growing into automation, reliability engineering, and infrastructure‑as‑code. You’ll work with experienced engineers to support the systems that keep our production environment running, while gaining room to learn, grow, and take on more responsibility over time.

OTC Markets is currently operating in a hybrid work environment (three days in office, two days remotely).

Required qualifications

• 2+ years of experience working with Linux operating systems, ideally Red Hat 8+, including a conceptual understanding of core infrastructure components such as storage, backup, and monitoring (deep expertise not required — solid fundamentals are).
• Understanding of virtualization concepts, such as VMware or similar platforms.
• Strong Python programming skills, with the ability to develop scripts and infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Familiarity with web UI concepts and making/consuming API calls.
• Ability to write Ansible playbooks for configuration management.
• Understanding of GitHub and its automation capabilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• A collaborative, team-first mindset and the interpersonal skills to work effectively across a group.

Preferred qualifications

• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines or GitHub Actions.
• Familiarity with REST APIs in a systems or automation context.
• Coursework, certifications, or personal projects involving Linux or automation.

What you will do

• Help maintain and support Linux-based production infrastructure.
• Write and maintain Ansible playbooks to automate configuration and routine operational tasks.
• Develop Python tooling and infrastructure‑as‑code to reduce manual work and improve reliability.
• Support monitoring, backup, and storage systems, and help respond to issues as they arise.
• Use Git/GitHub for version control and contribute to automated workflows (CI/CD).
• Collaborate with the team on improvements to system stability, performance, and process.

Salary

The target base salary for this role is between $85,000-88,000 with additional compensation composed of stock options, competitive discretionary annual cash bonus, and discretionary equity awards. Actual salary within that range is dependent upon the individual’s skills, experience and qualifications.
