Job summary

Addison Group seeks a hands-on Linux Systems Administrator in Houston to support and optimize a business-critical server environment. The role covers Linux and Windows administration, performance optimization, security, virtualization, and ongoing upgrades.

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of Linux experience, hands-on SLES/Ubuntu/Red Hat, and strong scripting skills. On-site work, periodic maintenance, and collaboration with security teams are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field.
• 3+ years of Linux administration experience.
• Strong experience with SUSE, Ubuntu, or Red Hat Linux.
• Experience with VMware or Hyper-V.
• Hands-on experience with Samba/Active Directory, NFS, volume management, and Bash scripting.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES 12/15) and Ubuntu Server 20.x LTS.
• Monitor system performance, logs, and traffic to identify and resolve issues proactively.
• Administer VMware or Hyper-V virtual environments.
• Support Active Directory/Samba/SMB interoperability, NFS, remote drive mapping, and volume management.
• Install and manage software packages using RPM, Zypper, and APT.
• Develop and maintain Bash scripts for administration and automation.
• Perform basic Windows Server administration and troubleshooting.
• Implement security best practices and work with security teams to address vulnerabilities.
• Coordinate with vendors and service providers to resolve technical issues.
• Assist with system upgrades, infrastructure projects, deployment planning, and technology refreshes.
• Provide technical support and guidance to developers and other IT administrators.
• Maintain documentation and provide training/knowledge transfer.
• Participate in occasional evening or weekend maintenance and project activities.
