Job summary

Walker Elliott is seeking a Linux Administrator to manage and support server infrastructure across multiple platforms in Houston. The role blends hands-on system administration with troubleshooting and project work in a fast-paced, business-critical environment.

You will install and maintain Linux servers (SuSE, Ubuntu, RedHat), monitor performance, and work with virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), Samba/AD, NFS, and automation scripting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 3+ years of hands-on Linux administration experience.
• Solid working knowledge of SuSE, Ubuntu, or RedHat environments.
• Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.
• Background supporting Samba/AD integration, NFS, volume management, and BASH scripting.
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or O365 is a plus.
• Familiarity with SQL Server, Exchange, SSL, or IIS is a plus
• SAN experience with platforms like Dell EMC, Synology, or Pure Storage is a plus
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Self-motivated with strong organizational and time management abilities
• Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced setting
• Onsite 5 days a week in Houston

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers, including SuSE and Ubuntu.
• Monitor system performance using command line tools and SolarWinds to catch issues before they cause downtime.
• Review logs and error reports to diagnose and resolve server problems.
• Recommend system improvements, plan upgrades, and manage deployment timelines.
• Install and manage software packages using standard Linux package managers.
• Support AD interoperability, SMB file sharing, NFS, and remote drive mapping.
• Apply security best practices in system design and partner with security teams on vulnerability management.
• Act as a point of contact for third-party support providers.
• Provide documentation and technical guidance to developers and other team members.
• Participate in occasional evening or weekend project work.
• Take on additional responsibilities as needed.
