Position Summary
Performs linework and assists other line personnel in connection with construction, maintenance, and repair of the electric system. A class A lineman must already understand and be able to perform the required functions of both an apprentice lineman and class B lineman. Work involves moderate physical exertion, heavy lifting, and exposure to inclement weather, as well as the hazardous conditions of working with high voltage energized lines and equipment. Personnel in class A lineman positions may serve as temporary crew foreman, when required.
Job Specific Requirements
Must possess a minimum of five (5) years of experience performing overhead electric line construction.
Must possess, and maintain a valid class A CDL and DOT medical card, and be able to remain insured as a driver by the group liability policy for the fleet.
Must be able to work from elevated heights utilizing various methods, to include, but not limited to, bucket trucks and pole climbing tools.
Must be able to physically perform all assigned tasks.
Education Requirements
Must possess at a minimum, a high school diploma, or its equivalent.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES
Must be able to prepare, and conduct a pre-job briefing and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
Must be able to interpret maps, specifications, staking sheets, and complex diagrams.
Will assist in the training of apprentice linemen.
Ability to lead crew in the foreman’s absence.
Ability to perform all line work according to safety standards and regulations.
Must be able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays, and be available 24/7 to address unplanned outages or activities.
Must possess good judgment, safe work methods, and ability to work well with diverse groups of people.
Must be willing to work away from home, for potentially long periods of time, as required, to include storm restoration.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE TESTING
This position is subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) drug and alcohol testing. Personnel in this position must comply with, and successfully pass, a pre-employment screening, as well as, random drug and alcohol testing.
