Job summary

American Electric Power in Oklahoma is seeking an experienced lineworker to support installation, maintenance, and inspection of transmission and distribution facilities. You will drive line trucks, climb poles, install underground cables, and perform energized line work with safety as priority.

Candidates need a CDL-A license and two years of line work experience, plus the ability to work overtime and travel as required.

Qualifications

• Two years of electrical line work experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid CDL A state driver's license.
• Must live within 35 mile radius, 40 roadway miles of service location.
• Must have the ability to climb and work at heights.
• Must be able to communicate with employees, customers and the general public in a courteous and proper manner.
• Must pass the AEP Pre-Assessment Evaluation.
• Must acquire with such time determined by the Company, the qualifications necessary to perform the duties of the next higher line of progression or vacate the current job classifications.

Responsibilities

• Opens and closes switches and installs grounding devices to lines and equipment.
• Climbs poles and/or rides in bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators or other hardware on poles.
• Install and repair underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads and pedestals.
• Installs pole hardware and such auxiliary equipment as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses and insulators, using hand tools and mechanical devices.
• May cover energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting service.
• Uses insulated poles (hot sticks) fitted with mechanically or hydraulically operated grasping and crimping tools and/or rubber gloves and sleeves to perform energized line work.
• Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.

Work Hours / Travel Requirements

Compensation Range: $39.40 - $56.36

Physical Demand Level for this job is:

H - Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
