Job summary

Omaha Public Power District in Papillion, NE is seeking a Line Tech Intern to gain hands-on experience supporting overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems. You will work alongside experienced line technicians to build foundational technical skills, safety knowledge, and field experience for a career in the line trade.

You will participate in structured learning experiences, assist with construction activities, and learn proper use of tools and PPE while following safety

Qualifications

• Enrollment in an Associate Utility Line Technician program.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
• Must be recommended for internship participation by the school.
• Must be enrolled in an approved two-year line degree program and qualify for an internship.
• Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Ability to climb poles and work at heights.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physically demanding construction work daily.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Participate in structured learning experiences to build utility line knowledge.
• Support overhead and underground construction including poles, lines, transformers, switches.
• Assist routine maintenance on energized and de-energized systems.
• Learn to use tools, materials, PPE used in line work.
• Follow safety rules and protocols in field tasks.
• Work with Line Techs and Crew Leaders to support daily tasks.
• Assist with service installations, cable and streetlight work.
• Support basic troubleshooting to resolve service issues.
• Demonstrate willingness to learn and accept feedback to develop skills.
• Contribute to a positive team environment and goals.
