Job summary

BD is seeking a manufacturing supervisor to lead a molding line on a rotating 12‑hour shift, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency while advancing BD Excellence initiatives. You will mentor teammates, coordinate staffing and attendance, drive continuous improvement, resolve production issues, and maintain production metrics on downtime and scrap while on the production floor.

Required: high school diploma or GED and 1 year of manufacturing experience; preferred: Bachelor's degree and 1+ year

Job Description

Lead a team of manufacturing associates and coordinate the performance, safety, quality, and efficiency of a molding line throughout the scheduled shift. Drive continuous improvement (BD Excellence), provide mentorship to team members, resolve issues proactively, and ensure adherence to company policies, good manufacturing practices, personal protective equipment protocols, and safety standards while upholding BD Values.

Schedule

  • Shift: 5:30 PM – 6:00 AM | Rotating 12-hour shifts

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead line operations to meet safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity goals.
  • Manage staffing, training, attendance, scheduling, and shift coverage.
  • Provide guidance as a mentor, performance feedback, recognition, and corrective action.
  • Support resolution of quality, production, and employee relations issues.
  • Facilitate Tier 1 production meetings and ensure effective shift-to-shift communication.
  • Supervise and update production metrics, downtime, scrap, and performance data.
  • Drive root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with standard work, quality plans, GMP, PPE, and safety requirements.
  • Maintain Kanban accuracy and prepare for production changeovers.
  • Spend the majority of time on the production floor supporting associates and operations.
  • Operate molding presses as needed to support business demands.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to work the assigned shift: 5:30 PM – 6:00 AM, rotating 12-hour schedule.
  • Minimum 1 year of manufacturing experience in a highly automated environment.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential and commitment to BD Values.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, Industrial Management, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year of people leadership experience.
  • 1+ year of injection molding experience.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing equipment and machinery.
  • Leadership, team development, and communication.
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Quality systems and manufacturing processes.
  • Safety and ergonomic awareness.
  • Logistics and planning knowledge.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.

Work Environment

This position works in a manufacturing environment and requires extended periods of standing and walking throughout the shift. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including a hair net, smock, safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety-toe shoes, must be worn at all times as required. Associates are expected to align with manufacturing appearance and cleanliness standards. BD maintains a smoke-free and tobacco-free campus.
