Job summary

American Electric Power seeks a Line Mechanic C to support installation, maintenance, and inspection of transmission and distribution facilities in the Athens, Ohio area. The role supports progression from Line Mechanic B to A as experience increases, including operations up to 600 volts under supervision.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, a valid Class A CDL, and relevant line work experience or completion of a recognized electrical power line school with internship.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of one year distribution electrical power line work experience, or equivalent as defined by the Company.
• Must have the ability and desire to acquire the necessary knowledge to perform higher classifications in the line of progression.
• Valid Class A CDL is required.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect overhead and underground facilities including conductors, cables, transformers, fixtures, structures and other equipment.
• Test, de-energize and ground URD cable, splice and terminate URD cable, and troubleshoot energized equipment under supervision.
• Use volt meters, amp meters and other electrical test equipment up to 600 volts.
• Build and erect equipment mountings and transformer installations.
• Direct the work of employees assigned to assist.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Successful completion of apprentice lineman training, including B-200 certification written test with a score of 80% or higher and hands-on demonstrations
