Job summary

Alliant Energy is hiring a Line Mechanic Apprentice to learn hands-on skills maintaining and repairing electrical distribution systems. You will construct, dismantle, maintain, replace, repair, and operate electric facilities while training with industry experts.

The role emphasizes safety, with requirements including a high school diploma or GED and the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License. Travel and residency considerations and DOT testing are part of the process.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED Required.
  • Ability to obtain Commercial Driver's License within trial period.
  • Subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements under 49 CFR Part 40 and FMCSA regulations.
  • Primary residence within 30 minutes of designated main office.

Responsibilities

  • Install, tension, tie in and remove conductors/guys.
  • Install/remove, frame and climb poles, towers and structures.
  • Operate basket trucks, digger trucks, trenchers, backhoes and other equipment.
  • Restore electric service quickly after weather or equipment failures.
  • Install and maintain street and security lighting.
  • Operate hydraulic/air tools and systems.
  • Install underground electrical equipment including cable terminations and related gear.
  • Follow safety rules and construction standards.
  • Trained in CPR and First Aid.
  • Load and haul poles, transformers and material to job sites.
  • May require licensing for pesticide, hazardous material handling.
