Job summary

Meriwether Godsey, Inc. in Chatham, VA, is seeking a Full-time Line Cook to prepare, cook, and present meals for daily service and special events at Chatham Hall.

The role requires accurate portioning, batch cooking, and adherence to recipes, temperatures, and sanitation standards. You will contribute to menu execution in a high-volume school environment, demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills, and can obtain ServSafe certification if not already held.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years of proven experience as a cook in a school setting or equivalent.
• ServSafe Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
• Experience with high-volume food service operations, preferably in school environments.
• Ability to measure products and convert units of measure.
• Professionalism with strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Flexibility to switch between locations and duties.
• Growing knowledge of sustainable practices.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and portion large quantities of meats, fish, vegetables, and other items.
• Batch cook to serving time to ensure quality and minimize over-production.
• Follow recipes and suggest changes to improve quality.
• Cook, maintain, and store foods at required temperatures.
• Record temperatures and follow sanitation standards.
• Maintain production records and assist forecasting information.
• Organize and sanitize coolers, freezers, storerooms; label and date items.
• Attend production meetings daily and discuss leftovers and efficiency.
• Perform duties in accordance with food safety standards.
• Other duties as assigned.
