Job Description

Johnson County Wastewater (JCW) is responsible for the safe collection, transportation, and treatment of wastewater generated by our community. Our work ensures that lakes, rivers, and streams remain free from disease-causing pathogens and pollutants harmful to public health and the environment. • Under limited and indirect supervision, completes routine, semi-skilled, skilled, and manual tasks related to wastewater collection system cleaning and inspection. Works on a crew providing assistance and support for various labor tasks such as pulling hoses, setting up traffic control, removing debris, preparing materials and tools, cleaning tanks and sewer lines, and inventory management. Assists with complex specialty work using equipment like jet vac trucks and CCTV trucks. Provides training and support to other staff and new employees.
• Operates various vehicles, equipment, and tools following safety protocols, including PPE and confined space procedures. Responds to emergency calls and after-hours requests, serving as a subject matter expert or assisting with complex issues.
• Enters data into maintenance systems, performs routine and complex preventative maintenance, responds to customer inquiries, and may operate equipment like jet trucks as an active crew leader.

Job Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent, Class B CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements, and an acceptable driving record are required.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Criteria may vary by department.

Preferred Job Requirements:

One year of experience with light, medium, or heavy-duty equipment is preferred.

Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:

Excessive standing/walking, exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, chemicals, heights, loud noises, raw sewage, confined spaces, and weather conditions. Ability to lift and push/pull up to 80 lbs. On-call and safety-sensitive work required. Uniform and PPE use mandated. Department and county are essential services.
