The Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove (WVHUG) is a 24/7/365 long-term care facility that provides comfort, support, and professional healthcare services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. The Home is located in Racine County, a short drive from Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, and other key locations in southeastern Wisconsin.

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Food Service Manager, the Food Service Aide interprets diet orders to serve standard and modified meals on tray lines in compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. Additional duties include assisting with food production, performing breakfast or grill cooking, transporting food carts between kitchen and servery areas, and participating in catered functions. The incumbent is an integral part of the food service team at the Wisconsin Veterans Home.

Salary and Benefits

Starting wage: $17.64 per hour. This position does not offer employee benefits.

Job Details

Schedule: 24–40 hours per week, limited term employment (LTE) with a maximum of 1,039 hours in a 12‑month period. Duties include moving carts weighing up to 500 pounds safely through hallways, moving equipment and supplies weighing up to 100 pounds, and performing medium to heavy manual labor.

Qualifications

• Wisconsin residency is required for LTE appointments.
• Experience preparing food products, measuring and counting quantities, ensuring quality, labeling and dating, prepping supplies, following production schedules, and maintaining a clean and safe area.
• Reading and following posted instructions.
• Performing food service functions.
• Following sanitation standards and safety controls.
• Communicating as a member of a team.
