Job summary

UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA Language Training Center is hiring limited term adjunct instructors to teach intensive Spanish language courses at the Tucson Campus. Instructors will develop curricula, prepare lesson plans, and adapt materials to DLPT/ILR levels under the supervision of LTC leadership.

Focused on short-term, intensive courses funded for strategic language instruction, the role offers part-time engagement (.24–.49 FTE) with 9.6–19.6 hours per week and pay per course.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in related field.
• Native or near-native fluency in the Spanish language.
• Prior experience in teaching language courses.

Responsibilities

• Prepare lesson plans and instruct sessions according to approved curriculum.
• Attend pre-course meetings with Program Manager/Executive Director.
• Understand Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) and Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) score levels.
• Develop the course(s) curriculum and lesson plans with authentic reading and listening materials.
• Build, update curriculum and course materials.
• Answer student emails and communicate regularly with students.
• Provide communication and feedback to students throughout the course.
• Submit lesson plans and course/teaching materials to LTC Program Manager for teaching material archive.
• Communicate and/or meet with center directors, other instructors in the same teaching team, and LTC staff as needed.
• Provide feedback to Program Manager/Executive Director on course(s) as needed.
• Additional duties as required by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in related field.
• Nativeor near-native fluency in the Spanish language.
• Prior experience in teaching language courses.

Preferred Qualifications

• Terminal degree in Spanish language pedagogy, second/foreign language education, applied linguistics, or other relevant field.
• Prior experience in curriculum development.
• Prior experience in teaching beginner through advanced intensive language courses and demonstrated excellence in teaching.
