Job summary

The University of Arizona Language Training Center (LTC) is seeking instructors for short-term intensive Chinese language courses. Funded by the Defense Language and National Security Education Office, LTC offers language instruction certification and advanced training in multiple strategic languages.

Alumni fundraising supports the deanship and ongoing inquiry. The position is adjunct (NTE), part-time, with per-course pay and non-benefits. Open date 7/23/2026.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree required.
  • Native or near-native fluency in Chinese.
  • Prior experience teaching language courses.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare lesson plans and instruct sessions according to approved curriculum.
  • Attend pre-course meetings with Program Manager/Executive Director.
  • Understand DLPT and ILR score levels.
  • Develop course curricula with authentic materials.
  • Build and update curriculum and course materials.
  • Communicate with students and answer emails.
  • Provide feedback to students and program staff.
  • Submit teaching materials to LTC program manager.

Position Highlights

The University of Arizona Language Training Center (LTC) is currently hiring Instructors for short-term intensive Chinese language courses. Funded by the Defense Language and National Security Education Office, the LTC offers language instruction certification and advanced training in multiple strategic languages.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepare lesson plans and instruct sessions according to approved curriculum.
  • Attend pre-course meetings with Program Manager/Executive Director.
  • Understand Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) and Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) score levels.
  • Develop the course(s) curriculum and lesson plans with authentic reading and listening materials.
  • Build, update curriculum and course materials.
  • Answer student emails and communicate regularly with students.
  • Provide communication and feedback to students throughout the course.
  • Submit lesson plans and course/teaching materials to LTC Program Manager for teaching material archive.
  • Communicate and/or meet with center directors, other instructors in the same teaching team, and LTC staff as needed.
  • Provide feedback to Program Manager/Executive Director on course(s) as needed.
  • Additional duties as required by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in related field.
  • Native or near-native fluency in the Chinese language.
  • Prior experience in teaching language courses.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in Chinese language pedagogy, second/foreign language education, applied linguistics, or other relevant field.
  • Prior experience in curriculum development.
  • Prior experience in teaching beginner through advanced intensive language courses and demonstrated excellence in teaching.
