Job summary

The Villages is seeking a Part Time Lighting Technician to design, operate, and produce all theatrical lighting for concerts and events. You will assist with reviewing talent riders and communicate observations to the Technical Manager to ensure high quality productions.

Responsibilities include programming cues, servicing equipment, and maintaining inventory while delivering exceptional guest service to both internal and external customers.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; 3–5 years of related lighting experience or training.
  • Three+ years in theatrical lighting required; strong English communication.
  • Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Outlook and office equipment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and solve problems with attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Job description

Within the spirit of "Making People's Dreams Come True", this position is responsible for designing, operating, and producing all theatrical lighting for concerts and events at venues or productions operated by The Villages Entertainment. The Lighting Technician is also responsible for the assistance with the reviewing of talent riders and communicating observations and adjustments needed to the Technical Manager and Senior Technical Manager. These duties are accomplished while delivering Raving Fans customer service to both internal and external customers.

Part Time, On Site Position

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate strong communication skills to interface with on-stage talent, audiences, and residents of The Villages.
  • Operate the lighting console (programming and playback) for rehearsals and live performances, ensuring cues are executed with precision and artistic sensitivity.
  • Assist with reviewing talent riders and communicate observations and adjustments as needed to the Technical Manager and Senior Technical Manager.
  • Assist in the administration of problem solving, including equipment failure, inventory shortages (missing or broken equipment), missing or late personnel, special events and/or instructions from the Entertainment Department.
  • Design, plot, and program lighting looks for in-house productions, corporate rentals, and community events that do not bring their own designers.
  • Safely store and inventory all lighting equipment and consumables, ensuring all records are up to date pertaining to condition, current location, and future availability.
  • Safely operate necessary equipment and tools including hand truck, forklift, scissor lift, ladder, various power tools, heavy duty lighting equipment, and high voltage & amperage equipment.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three (3) to five (5) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in the field of theatrical lighting required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of office equipment such as printers, copiers, scanners, etc.
  • Time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Problem solving skills and detail oriented.
  • Must have the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
  • This position is subjected to The Villages Vehicle Safety Program and its policies as it requires the use of personal vehicles for company business.
  • A Valid Driver's License with a record acceptable to company standards is required for this position.
