Job summary

Boden Talent is seeking a Lighting & Shading Systems Engineer in Mountain View, CA to design, integrate and deliver advanced lighting control and automated shading systems for commercial facilities.

The role requires designing, installing, commissioning and connecting lighting and shading systems to building automation. You will collaborate with facilities teams, project managers and clients to meet technical standards and project requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline is required or an Associate's degree with relevant technical experience.
• Experience with lighting controls, building automation or related systems is expected.
• Strong knowledge of Acuity nLight and ECLYPSE controllers preferred.
• Proficient with BACnet/IP and BAS/BMS integration.

Responsibilities

• Review electrical, lighting and controls drawings to ensure compliance with project requirements and standards.
• Assess control strategies for lighting, occupancy, daylight harvesting and shading integration.
• Coordinate with contractors and vendors to ensure proper system installation and network readiness.
• Develop commissioning procedures for dimming, glare management and occupancy controls.

Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Lighting & Shading Systems Engineer to support the design, integration and delivery of advanced lighting control and automated shading systems across a diverse portfolio of commercial facilities.

This is a highly technical position suited to an engineer who understands how lighting, shading and building automation systems work together. You will play an important role in ensuring these technologies are properly designed, installed, commissioned and connected to wider building automation infrastructure.

The role will involve working closely with facilities teams, project managers, contractors, controls specialists and client stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered in line with technical standards and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Technical Engineering

• Review electrical, lighting and controls drawings to ensure systems meet project requirements and applicable standards.
• Assess sequences of operation and control strategies covering lighting, occupancy detection, daylight harvesting and automated shading.
• Review the integration of Acuity nLight, ECLYPSE controllers and BACnet/IP within wider building automation systems.
• Identify potential design and installation issues before they impact project delivery.
• Carry out site inspections to verify equipment locations, sensor positioning, controller access and installation quality.
• Work alongside project teams to resolve technical issues and maintain an effective issues and actions process.
• Liaise with manufacturers, vendors and contractors to ensure systems are correctly specified and ready for network integration.

Project & Stakeholder Management

• Monitor project progress and provide updates on installation, integration and system readiness.
• Work with internal facilities and engineering teams to ensure project requirements are understood and delivered.
• Identify opportunities to improve existing processes and standardise lighting and shading integration practices.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, technical records and system information.
• Produce reports and technical updates for project and client stakeholders.
• Help ensure energy efficiency, occupant comfort and building performance objectives are considered throughout project delivery.
• Support and oversee the installation of lighting control gateways, ECLYPSE controllers and automated shading interfaces.
• Develop and implement commissioning procedures for dimming, glare management, occupancy controls and override functions.
• Investigate and resolve controls and communication issues during commissioning.
• Validate system functionality and ensure lighting and shading systems communicate correctly with the wider building automation network.
• Complete integration checks, including BACnet point mapping and naming conventions.
• Support the transition of newly installed systems into operational building management environments.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Facilities Engineering or a related discipline.
• An Associate's degree combined with relevant technical experience may also be considered.
• Approximately 2–5 years' experience working with lighting controls, building automation or related systems.
• Strong practical knowledge of Acuity nLight systems, ideally including ECLYPSE controllers.
• Experience with BACnet/IP and integration with BAS/BMS platforms.
• Understanding of lighting control strategies, daylight harvesting and occupancy-based controls.
• Knowledge of automated shading systems would be highly beneficial.
• Ability to interpret electrical, controls and system drawings.
• Experience troubleshooting and commissioning integrated control systems.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with contractors, vendors, engineers and client representatives.

The following would be advantageous:

• Project management or project coordination experience.
• Experience developing or reviewing technical scopes of work.
• Building automation system integration.
• Experience with ALC systems.
• Knowledge of BACnet point naming and mapping standards.
• Experience working on large commercial, corporate, healthcare, critical infrastructure or other technically complex facilities.
