Job description

Location: San Jose, CA (near the airport - Hybrid 3-4 days a week on-site)

We are a leading BAS/MEP Engineering Design firm specializing in Architectural Lighting Design, Commissioning and Energy Solutions, Sustainability, Technology (just to name a few) with a solid reputation in the field over the past 40 years.

The Controls Engineer will support the design and implementation of Building Management Systems (BMS) for a variety of complex projects, including mission-critical data centers, commercial buildings, cleanrooms, light manufacturing facilities, and other commercial developments. This role serves as a technical resource throughout the project lifecycle and works closely with clients, contractors, architects, and internal engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and review BMS design documentation, including sequences of operation, points lists, network riser diagrams, and control specifications.
  • Perform site investigations, field verification, and construction observations.
  • Evaluate HVAC control strategies and provide technical recommendations during system design.
  • Manage assigned project tasks to meet schedules and budgets.
  • Serve as a primary client contact and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and other engineering disciplines throughout project execution.
  • Participate in project meetings, site walkthroughs, and coordination activities.
  • Attend factory acceptance testing (FAT), software bench testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Review equipment submittals and respond to RFIs in a timely manner.
  • Support additional project and engineering tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Minimum of 3 years of controls engineering experience with a consulting engineering firm or controls contractor.
  • Demonstrated experience designing controls systems for mission-critical data centers.
  • Working knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS), HVAC controls, electrical monitoring, and building systems integration.
  • Familiarity with PLC-based controls and major BMS platforms.
  • Strong understanding of applicable engineering codes, industry standards, and construction processes.
  • Experience supporting large-scale design and construction projects preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with Revit and/or AutoCAD
