Job summary

Valley Metro RPTA seeks an experienced technician to maintain and repair Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) mechanical systems, ensuring safety, reliability and readiness. The role includes on-call emergency repairs and adherence to safety programs.

Starting pay ranges hourly, with shift differentials for 2nd and 3rd shifts. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and relevant experience in transit vehicle mechanics, HVAC, and wheel maintenance. A valid Arizona driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED plus one year of transit vehicle mechanical repair experience.
• Experience with HVAC and wheel maintenance.
• Troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Equivalent education and experience acceptable; additional education cannot substitute experience.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair and replace LRV mechanical components.
• Work with HVAC systems and wheel truing equipment.
• Identify and gather parts, safely use tools and maintain repair logs.
• Rebuild and overhaul LRV parts and equipment, including glass/windshields, HVAC, wheels.
• Cross-train and assist other employees.
• Respond to emergencies to perform onsite repairs and re-railment of vehicles.
• Complete special projects and events as assigned.
• Perform other duties of similar nature as needed.
