PAY & BENEFITS

Begins at $45,032.11 and is based on experience. In addition to the base salary, this full-time position is eligible for an annual performance bonus as well as a longevity bonus.

Job Description

The purpose of this classification is to operate light to heavy equipment, drive large trucks/vehicles, and perform manual work related to road surface construction, maintenance, or other projects for the Town of Smyrna. Duties include operating various equipment, maintaining vehicles, hauling materials, performing construction and maintenance tasks, and assisting in repairs. Reports to Public Works Superintendent.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Operate trucks and equipment such as bulldozers, backhoes, graders, asphalt maintainers, rollers, loaders, and excavators.
• Transport materials and monitor transport status.
• Provide traffic control in work zones.
• Perform manual labor including shoveling, asphalt work, salting, grading, digging, and other tasks.
• Assist in drainage easement repairs and construction.
• Maintain work areas and equipment, and keep records according to regulations.
• Lead or assist less skilled workers as directed.
• Operate knuckle boom trucks and perform related duties.
• Perform general maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 18 years old
• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Tennessee Driver's License with satisfactory record
• CDL within 6 months of hire
• Two years experience operating light to heavy equipment
• Knowledge of Public Works operations or equivalent experience
• Ability to wear safety equipment correctly
• Experience in shooting grade elevations preferred
