Position Summary

Operate one or several types of power construction equipment to excavate, move, and/or grade material.

Primary Responsibilities And Duties

1. Operate a variety of vehicles and large heavy equipment while performing maintenance and repairs on roads and rights-of-way, including loading, hauling, and dumping on various surfaces.
2. Load gravel, dirt, and sand; smooth and grade roads; spread rock and gravel.
3. Construct ditches and trenches for culverts, water pipes, and sewer pipes; remove silt and debris.
4. Maintain equipment by checking and maintaining all fluid levels and lubrication.
5. Instruct and train employees in the safe operation of construction equipment and tools, as well as job techniques and skills.
6. Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify errors, problems, or defects.

Qualifications

1. High school diploma or equivalent, with relevant experience preferred.
2. Working knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance.
3. Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; effective communication skills.
4. Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and layout tools safely and efficiently.

Requirements

1. Ability to move about a construction site, including standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
2. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
3. Work irregular hours, including weekends, overtime, and holidays.
4. Ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and mechanical platforms, sometimes exceeding 200 feet.
5. Work in confined, cluttered, and uneven environments.
6. Lift and move items up to 50 pounds.
7. Possession of a U.S. Driver License may be required.
8. Comply with safety and project rules; pass drug, alcohol, and background checks.
