Job summary

City Of Edinburg is seeking a dedicated Lift Station Operator to maintain pumps, motors, and related equipment and to perform routine inspections of lift stations. You will read meters, keep areas clean, and assist in repairs and replacements as needed to keep city infrastructure running reliably.

The role requires a high school diploma, specific TCEQ wastewater licenses, and a valid Class C driver's license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• TCEQ Class B Wastewater Operator's License or higher.
• Achieve additional TCEQ wastewater licenses within specified years.
• Pre-employment drug test required at City of Edinburg's expense.
• Current valid Class C driver's license with satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine maintenance of lift stations and related equipment.
• Take meter readings and monitor lift station operation daily.
• Repair or replace pumps, motors, and valves as needed.
• Operate construction equipment and assist in industrial maintenance.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A LIFT STATION OPERATOR

As a Lift Station Operator, you spend your day conducting routine maintenance of lift stations mechanical equipment such as re-packing pumps, replacing worn or damaged motor belts, and unstopping clogged pumps. Other duties include taking readings from meter gauges, ensuring lift station is kept clean and orderly. Your job is essential to the city, and you perform various repairs or replace lift station pumps, motors, and valves. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include operating and inspecting lift stations wet wells and dry wells daily for proper operation. When you are not out in the city, you generally inspect, maintain and repair the city's sanitary sewer lift stations equipment. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed. The city needs someone like you with skills in operating construction equipment and performing industrial maintenance, and you find genuine enjoyment in what you do!

Qualifications For a Lift Station Operator

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Preferred: Community college, vocational business, technical, or correspondence school certificates are likely sources.
• No experience required.
• Preferred: One (1) year of experience in related field.
• Preferred: TCEQ Class "B" Wastewater Operator's License or higher.
• Achieve TCEQ Class "D" Wastewater Operator's License or Wastewater Collection Class I within first (1) year of employment.
• Achieve TCEQ Class "C" Wastewater Operator's License or Wastewater Collection Class II within three (3) years of employment.
• Achieve TCEQ Class "B" Wastewater Operator's License or Wastewater Collection Class III within five (5) years of employment.
• Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense
• Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
