Job summary

Spring Branch Independent School District is seeking a Special Education Teacher Assistant — Lifeskills to support students and teachers in special education classes on site in Houston. The role involves assisting with instructional activities, materials, and student care as needed.

The position requires at least 48 college hours or an equivalent diploma plus district assessment, with English fluency and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 48 college hours or high school diploma/equivalent plus pass a District Assessment; Educational Aide Certification.
• Ability to work with children using appropriate interpersonal skills; Fluent in English (verbal and written); Background related to working with children and parents; Physical capacity to lift 50 lbs; Bus driver training as needed, or as required.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to Texas Education Agency and district policies and procedures.
• Assist in carrying out the instructional program under the supervision of the teaching personnel.
• Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
• Assist with teacher planned activities, exercises and drills.
• Follow teacher instruction and guidance.
• Assist in maintaining student records and audit folders.
• Assist in helping students with self-care activities, such as feeding and toileting needs.
• Participate in planned inservice.
• Perform other related duties as required.
