Job summary

Seattle YMCA is hiring lifeguards to maintain a safe pool and deck environment for families and children. You will be the first responder in emergencies, oversee safety equipment, and uphold YMCA safety policies.

The role emphasizes on-site work with training available, including lifeguard certification and CPR/First Aid, with opportunities for growth and a strong team culture at the Seattle Y.

Qualifications

• We can facilitate the Lifeguard certification process if not yet certified.
• 16 years of age or older for part-time; 18 years or older for full-time.
• Current lifeguard certification from a recognized organization (e.g. Red Cross).
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
• Current Administering Emergency Oxygen Certification.
• Strong swimming abilities and calm, quick judgment in emergencies.
• Ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck and surrounding areas.
• Rescues distressed persons and administers first aid/CPR if necessary.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures availability; reports problems promptly.
• Provides excellent customer service to members and guests.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Performs pool-side chemical testing.
• Sets up and stores equipment for recreational swims.
• Other duties as assigned.
