General Job Summary: The seasonal position of Lifeguard, under the guidance of the Campus Life Minister, ensures the safety of the youth and staff using the pool at Methodist Children's Homes of Mississippi by preventing and responding to emergencies.

Essential Functions

• Maintains constant surveillance of individuals in the pool facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
• Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
• Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
• Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
• Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Knowledge & Experience
• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age with at least one (1) year of applicable experience as a lifeguard.
• Must be a certified lifeguard and trained in water safety.
• Must be certified in CPR and First Aid.
• Experience working with youth is preferred.

Skills/Working Conditions:

• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the department.
• Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
• Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
• Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
• Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
• Must provide a negative drug screen result prior to employment.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical and TB test and on-going physical assessments as required.
