Job summary

The Lake Superior YMCA in Superior, WI seeks a Lifeguard to maintain safe swimming conditions and a welcoming atmosphere for members. The role emphasizes vigilance, injury prevention, and adherence to YMCA policies to promote safety and member engagement.

This part-time position may become full-time based on aquatic department needs; candidates must hold current CPR/AED and Lifeguard/First Aid certifications and be willing to participate in ongoing training.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16.
• Certifications: CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid, and Oxygen (preferred).
• Ability to maintain certification readiness and pass a background check.
• Successful completion of the Duluth Y’s Lifeguard Assessment prior to employment.

Responsibilities

• Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.
• Responds to emergencies immediately per YMCA policies and procedures.
• Completes related reports as required.
• Maintains positive relationships with members and staff and applies safety rules.
• Keeps records as required by YMCA and Health Department codes.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures equipment is available as needed.
• Attends staff meetings and required training and maintains current certifications.
• Completes additional duties as assigned and fosters an inclusive environment.
