Job summary

Lake Superior YMCA seeks a Lifeguard to maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool and surrounding areas in Downtown Duluth. The role is part-time with potential full-time hours, reporting to the Aquatics Director.

Responsibilities include constant surveillance, emergency response per YMCA policy, and accurate reporting. Candidates must be at least 16, hold CPR/AED and Lifeguarding certifications, and be willing to complete required trainings.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Certifications: CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid, and Oxygen (preferred).
• Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
• Successful completion of the Duluth Y’s Lifeguard Assessment prior to employment.

Responsibilities

• Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.
• Knows and follows all emergency procedures and responds immediately.
• Completes related reports as required.
• Maintains positive relationships with members and staff; enforces safety rules.
• Keeps accurate records as required by the YMCA and Health Department.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures necessary equipment is available.
• Checks the pool for hazards on arrival and during shift.
• Attends required staff meetings and trainings; maintains certifications.
• Completes additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Fosters an inclusive environment and supports diversity initiatives.
