Job summary

YMCA of Superior California is seeking a dedicated lifeguard to maintain safe swimming conditions and a positive atmosphere, enforcing YMCA policies and procedures to protect member safety. Responsibilities include active pool surveillance, emergency response, equipment checks, chemical testing, and record-keeping.

Candidates must hold CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Basic First Aid certifications, with YMCA Lifeguarding certification obtained within 60 days and Oxygen Administration

Qualifications

  • Lifeguard certifications and CPR/First Aid are required.
  • Current YMCA lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding and YMCA Lifeguarding Certification within 60 days.
  • Oxygen Administration certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills per YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
  • Review and follow emergency procedures and respond to emergencies immediately.
  • Maintain positive relationships with members, participants and staff.
  • Apply safety rules for the pool and aquatic area and maintain records as required.
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure necessary equipment is available.
  • Check the pool for hazards on arrival.
  • Perform chemical testing when not guarding and take appropriate action.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training.

Overview

Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
  • Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model. Completes related reports as required.
  • Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
  • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  • Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
  • Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
  • Attends all staff meetings and in-service training.
Qualifications
  • Minimum age of 15.
  • Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
  • Current YMCA lifeguardingorRed Cross Lifeguarding and obtain YMCA Lifeguarding Certification within 60 days of hire.
