Job summary

YMCA of Superior California is seeking a Lifeguard to maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool and surrounding areas. You will promote a positive, safe atmosphere and actively supervise swimmers in accordance with YMCA policies.

The role requires current lifeguarding certifications (YMCA or Red Cross) and certifications in CPR/First Aid with oxygen administration within 30 days of hire. This on-site position offers access to YMCA facilities and a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• CPR/First Aid certifications required.
• Active YMCA lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding certifications required with 60 days of hire.
• Oxygen Administration certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to maintain certification readiness.
• Demonstrate lifeguard skills per YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Reviews and follows emergency procedures; responds immediately per YMCA policies.
• Maintains positive relationships with members, participants and staff.
• Applies pool area safety rules and keeps required records per YMCA and state code.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate gear is available.
• Checks pool for hazards on arrival and during shifts.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding; takes appropriate action.
• Attends staff meetings and in-service trainings.

Overview

Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model. Completes related reports as required.
• Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
• Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
• Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
• Attends all staff meetings and in-service training.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 15.
• Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
• Current YMCA lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding and obtain YMCA Lifeguarding Certification within 60 days of hire.
• Oxygen Administration certification (required within 30 days of hire)
• Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

Posted Salary Range

USD $17.00 - USD $21.00 /Hr.
