Job summary

Fairbanks North Star Borough seeks a parttime lifeguard responsible for spectator, participant, and staff safety in aquatic facilities. Duties include enforcing rules, lifesaving, first aid, pool and locker room cleaning, and providing office support such as cash handling and POS transactions.

Applicants must be 16+, hold ARC certifications (First Aid, Lifeguarding, CPR-PR), and pass the ARC Swim Proficiency Test. Night and weekend work is preferred.

Qualifications

• Sixteen years of age at time of employment.
• Must possess and maintain certification in Standard First Aid, Lifeguarding, and CPR-PR as recognized by the American Red Cross (or equivalent).
• Prefer ability and willingness to work nights and weekends.
• All qualified candidates must be able to demonstrate all lifesaving and first aid skills required by the position.
• Must be able to pass American Red Cross Swim Proficiency Test: swim 150 yards front crawl/breaststroke, tread 2 minutes, swim 50 yards more with face in water; retrieve a 10 lb brick at 12 ft, surface dive, return with brick, and exit without ladder.

Responsibilities

• Enforce safety rules in a polite but consistent manner.
• Perform lifesaving and first aid procedures as appropriate for the situation.
• Provide routine clean-up, sanitizing, and general maintenance in pool and locker room areas.
• Provide office support including cash handling activities, make change and operate a credit card machine.
• Operate a register with a point of sale, check in patrons, sell passes, create accounts and keep a tally sheet of users in the building.
