Job summary

New Canaan Community Ymca in New Canaan, CT is seeking lifeguards for early shifts starting at 5:15am, with premium pay for early hours and weekends. Shifts commonly run 5:30am–9:00am on weekdays, 7:30am–6:30pm on Saturdays, and 7:30am–5:00pm on Sundays, with flexible scheduling and free Y membership.

Under the Senior Director of Aquatics, lifeguards provide surveillance, respond quickly in emergencies, enforce safety rules, and communicate with swimmers and staff to maintain pool and deck

Qualifications

• American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate or equivalent.
• Ability to swim continuously for 300 yards.
• Perform all tasks necessary for water rescue.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality surveillance and swift, professional action in emergencies.
• Observe surroundings and enforce safety rules and policies.
• Communicate with swimmers, instructors, and staff to maintain pool and deck safety.
• Coordinate with Senior Director of Aquatics to ensure orderly operations.

Job Details

Job Location: New Canaan, CT 06840 • Salary Range: $18.00 – $24.00 hourly.

Shift Information

We are looking for Early Bird lifeguards to start at 5:15am, with premium pay including additional shift differential. Early shifts and weekends both carry a premium differential. Shifts are usually 3 hours: 5:30am–9pm on weekdays, 7:30am–6:30pm on Saturdays, and 7:30am–5pm on Sundays.

Flexible scheduling allows you to work one or more shifts a week at times that fit your availability. All employees receive free membership to our Y.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Aquatics, lifeguards provide quality surveillance, act swiftly and professionally in emergency situations, observe their surroundings, enforce safety rules and policies, and communicate with swimmers, instructors, and other staff to maintain order and safety in the pool and on deck.
