No prior experience is required, but certifications in lifeguarding and CPR/AED are preferred.
The City of Norfolk's Department of Recreation is seeking knowledgeable full-time Lifeguards to ensure a safe swimming environment for aquatic facility patrons at assigned swimming pools and open water facilities. Other duties may include instructing swimming lessons and water fitness classes; assisting with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of aquatic programs; planning daily activities of the pool and general swimming pool operations.

Department Starting Hourly Rate: $20.00
Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, comprehend simple processes, and operate routine machines. Knowledge level is equivalent to less than high school or equivalent.
No prior experience is required.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications: Valid Driver's License (depending on assignment); current Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Training Certificate; current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer; current First Aid Certification. Knowledge level should be less than high school or equivalent.
Successful completion of swimming competency, job knowledge examination, and water rescue skills screening is required. Work locations include various City of Norfolk pools and the oceanfront.
Work hours are scheduled between 6:00 AM and 9:00 PM; flexible hours apply.
