Job summary

Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA in Cranberry Township, PA is seeking a part-time Lifeguard to maintain pool safety and provide a welcoming, safe environment for members.

The role requires lifeguard certification, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and oxygen administration within 30 days of employment, plus ability to work day, evening and weekend hours. You will oversee pool surveillance, enforce safety rules, keep records, perform chemical tests, and respond promptly to emergencies

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 15; required.
• Lifeguard (including Deep Water) Certification with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid.
• Oxygen Administration certification within 30 days of employment; required.
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant pool surveillance and safety.
• Review and apply all emergency procedures; respond immediately.
• Foster positive relationships with members and staff.
• Enforce safety rules and guidelines for pool areas.
• Maintain records as required by YMCA and health codes.
• Conduct equipment checks and ensure availability.
• Check pool for hazards on arrival and during shifts.
• Perform chemical tests and take actions as needed.
• Complete incident/accident reports as necessary.
• Present a professional demeanor in line with YMCA Code of Conduct.
• Keep pool areas clean and properly stocked; follow policies.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

The Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The incumbent serves others by intentionally welcoming, connecting, and supporting them and inviting them to get involved and give back to the community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum age of 15; required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Maintain constant surveillance of the pool areas.
• Know/review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
• Maintain effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
• Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
• Maintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
• Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.
• Check pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
• Perform chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and take appropriate action.
• Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times according to the YMCA Code of Conduct.
• Maintain pool areas in regards to equipment, safety, inventory and cleanliness.
• Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
